Dr. Ciara McGoldrick
Breast diseases, Plastic surgery
Belfast
· 10 - 15 years experienceI am a UK trained plastic surgeon, who has undertaken additional training in breast surgery. I offer a wide range of aesthetic procedures, although my main focus is on breast and abdominal surgery. I am a busy mum of 3 and I am passionate about supporting women in decisions about what is best for their bodies at all stages of their life.
Education
I completed my medical degree in Queen’s University Belfast, before embarking on surgical training. During the following 14 years, I completed a Master’s degree in Trauma Surgery and gained my Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in Plastic Surgery. I developed an interest in reconstructive breast surgery towards the end of my training, electing to undertake research with the world renowned plastic surgeon, Dr Elizabeth Hall-Findlay in Banff Canada, focussing on optimising long term outcomes in aesthetic breast surgery.
Qualifications
In 2017 I gained a place on the competitive National TIG Fellowship Programme to complete training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, which recognised by the Joint Council of Surgical Training, to treat breast cancer through from diagnosis to finessing breast reconstruction. I followed this with a Microsurgical Fellowship in the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, as part of their specialist cancer reconstruction team. Alongside these fellowships I gained extensive experience in aesthetic breast surgery in Essex and Harley Street, as it very much compliments the skills of a reconstructive surgeon.
Biography
Since returning to Belfast in 2018, I have instituted microvascular breast reconstruction into the portfolio of procedures we offer our breast patients for the first time in the Regional Breast Reconstruction Unit. This technique involves removing fat and skin from the lower part of the abdomen, using it to recreate a breast as part of their cancer treatment. Looking after women throughout their lives, and trying to rebuild them after cancer puts me in a unique position to understand the challenges that our bodies present to us, and have a diversity of skills to tackle them.
